Volunteer with Make Stuff

“Through my volunteering work with Make Stuff my personal confidence has grown, as well as my contact network”

Make Stuff is taking a break for now, but will be back soon. In the meantime, we’re on the hunt for volunteers who can help us to support future events in Stockport. That might be in the form of running a workshop, mentoring a young person, photography, or admin. There are many different forms that volunteering can take, and we welcome all-comers and skill levels.

In return, you’ll be volunteering in a supportive environment and learning new skills along the way. There’ll also be regular socials and opportunities for training, where you can grow your skills and network.

Our valued volunteers are motivated to get involved for a variety of reasons, like: gaining work experience, expanding their professional networks, acquiring transferable skills, and supporting their community.

Complete our volunteer form, and we’ll be in touch to get the ball rolling.

“You and your team [of volunteers] who helped to organise this event are lovely people! It was such a welcoming environment and put me in a brilliant mood

More about our volunteering opportunities

Here’s a little bit more about the kind of roles you can get involved in at Make Stuff.

Supporting workshops

You’re a creative person looking to get hands-on with family and/or adult workshops. You’ll be supporting workshop leads to help deliver engaging experiences to Stockport audiences. Or, you might fancy helping out front-of-house, welcoming people to workshops and making sure everyone has a brew.

Running workshops

We are always on the lookout for opportunities to run digital skills workshops. We’re after people with demonstrable prior experience of leading workshops and activities. (We also have some paid workshop opportunities.)

Mentoring

We’re keen to hear from businesses and individuals working in the tech industry who can provide mentorship to young people looking at joining the tech industry - from software engineering to the arts. Mentoring makes a huge difference to both learners and mentors. We’ll provide all the training you need.

More

Got a flair for photography? A talent for timetabling? Seriously into surveys? We would love a hand preparing for and documenting events.

How it works

Our volunteering opportunities are flexible, designed to fit around your availability and interests.

When?

Weekdays and/ or weekends to suit you. Sign up for a one-off, or commit to a run. The choice is yours.

Support

We know that, especially with a cost of living crisis, things can be tight. So we will cover costs for volunteers in terms of transport (if needed). We also have some remote volunteering roles. If there are any other barriers to your taking part, please let us know and we can see what we can do to help.
